Since returning from break, my ImagineIt has shifted a little, or rather, it has broadened a little in its scope. I still am focusing on Making Understanding Visible, but I have decided to include a little assessment piece in it as well.
I have been using Google Classroom with my classes this year. I had been using it primarily as a way for students to document their learning each day. I have been calling it a “Story”, and have been having students take pictures or type about their learning each day. I haven’t been satisfied with that piece of their learning, so I decided to shorten that aspect of the day and in its place have students complete a Google Form to do a quick, formative assessment. Then, I have been using Flubaroo to grade the assessments. I set it up so that the students then get an email with their scores. If they miss anything, then they can either (depending on the objective of the lesson and the focus of the assessment) edit their responses or I have them write an explanation about what they did wrong and how they can correct it. This has help make their understanding more visible for me each day.

I also started my students on the Java Script course through Khan Academy. Most students should be getting to the part of the course that focuses on variables in the next week. I am excited to see how this learning will affect their work in the Everyday Math curriculum.

Finally, I am working with the Kat Taubensee, the art teacher, to develop a project using scale and perspective. We are looking at combining geometry and perspective. It is going to be an exciting second half of the year!
